Thought I'd share this because sometimes don't know who may be listening to your music. My partner was stopped by a neighbor in the condo complex we are temporarily living in with a couple of questions about our condo. During the conversation he asked her if she was Native American. Turns out that she is and she just moved her mother here to Ohio from Pueblo, New Mexico. She said that her mother likes to sit in the front room of their condo so that she can hear the flute music from a few doors down. I'm humbled by this, because I didn't really think that anyone every paid any attention when I played. I sometimes sit in the garage with the door open and play my flutes, but try to keep it soft so as not to bother folks. I guess you never know who might be listening. It's funny because you don't generally hear flute music in Ohio and I don't know of any other local players. Stephen.

I'll bet she would love for you to visit her and take your flutes. She might even enjoy playing one! I'll bet that would be very comforting to her.

Just a thought . . . rolleyes.gif

Associate Pastor?!! That's great! We both know the pay comes in many forms wink.gif Glad you're still doing what you love to do - teaching school has always been important and rewarding for you. smile.gif

I'm thrilled to have taken a few more steps into the Early Music world. It's all new and exciting! Met some wonderful folks from around the world. A couple even have flutes I've made ohmy.gif Pierre Hamon who is a flute/recorder player with Jordi Savall and Elisabeth Champollion, who is a recorder player too. I'm sure you will enjoy their music which you can find on youtube.

I did get an oboe but it's a contemporary instrument and it needs a lot of work to be playable. Had the privilege to hang out with a woman who builds baroque oboes and has done so since the 70's. She is well respected in the early music world...she builds them using only hand tools!! I hope to get a baroque oboe one day. Oh our new neighbor, she lives about 50 miles away, builds baroque oboes!! I'm like a child in a toy store smile.gif

Ooo! Sounds exciting! Maybe you two could trade a handmade instrument!

Hi Jan!! Life is treating me quite nicely!! How are you? You may remember my obsession with Baroque music after some work in England with the London Mozart Players. I'm still obsessed with it even more so now! 2 years ago I was invited to the Boston Early Music Festival as an exhibitor. What an amazing event!!! It's the world's premier festival of Early music. My musical interest is now sliding backwards to the Renaissance and Medieval era's...wow some wicked good music!!

I remember that you were moving towards the clergy. How is that going? Bet it's wonderful!!

I graduated from seminary in 2015 and am the Associate Pastor at my church. They can't afford to pay me, but they do reimburse my mileage and I get to preach sometimes! Still teaching school. It's my income and I do love the kids.

I am jealous of your work with Baroque music! I remember that. I also remember you were talking about getting an oboe. Can't remember if you got one or not.

Oops! Sorry, Keith! I Think I hijacked the thread . . . rolleyes.gif

Hi Hawk!! biggrin.gif How is life treating you?

I LOVE baroque music. I really wish there was a recorder teacher near me so I could take lessons. Unfortunately, most people see the recorder as a toy or kid's school instrument.

Hi all,

Gary is making his Fall trip back to Vermont (at the height of Foliage Season!), so if you find yourself on a leaf-peeping trip up this way, you might want to check out the concert. The acoustics in the Old Round Church are awesome!

Mike

Ooo! Wish I could go! I'd love to visit the church, too, and go leaf peeping! Fall is my FAVORITE season of the year!

Did you get out there for some activities with your class? That colander thing would have gone over well!

We wanted to take our granddaughters with us to see it, but it was the first day of the school year.👎

Nope. The kids weren't in school yet. It would have been great, though . . .

Tootie, these are some words that come to mind for the lighter teas, although each can vary widely within the type.

White: smooth, subtle, citrusy, sweet, sometimes buttery. The color of the brew ranges from light orange to very pale yellow.

Green: vegetal, bright, sequential (the flavor can evolve during the tasting), fruity. The color ranges from light orange to light green.

You'd expect whites to be more blah, but I find them interesting and complex.

You'd expect greens to be grassy, and some are, but the ones I like can finish with a taste of peach or plum.

Yum, yum!

Oooh! Thanks for the info! I will try some white tea. Do you brew it the same way you do green tea (not boiling water/ 3 minutes)?

Also, do you have a fav brand of white tea?

Hi, I struggle with sinus problems. Mostly at the end of the day I find it hard to breathe through my nose. Especially if I have been eating foods not so good for my body and if there are neighbors using wood fires.

I'm curious if there are flute player who struggle with sinus issues that make it hard to breath through the nostrils?

How do you take your breath whilst trying to play without long pauses? How does one keep their sound flowing?

I'm aiming to ask folks who know what it's like to have trouble breathing though the nose as many people just take it for granted that everyone can breath easily through the nose.

Go to the store. Get saline nasal spray. It is just salt water. You can use it as often as you want. It is not addictive. It works. I used to have sinus infections and end up at the doctor for antibiotics 4 or 5 times a year. Since I've been using saline nasal spray, I have not been back to the doctor for that. It's been about 20 years.

So, just this week I was feeling the achy teeth and sinus and headachy. Got my saline nasal spray and started using it a few times a day. In a day or two, all symptoms were gone.

Seriously. I love that stuff.

I was unaware of the status afforded to Mao Feng, to me it tastes and smells like summer, very refreshing.

Honestly I have found no benefit to using a Gaiwan over a tea pot, however, I tend to use it for lighter white and green teas.

I feel there is a distinct correlation betwixt Puer and flute playing/making ability smile.gif

Great post!

How does white tea compare to green tea?

Well, just so everyone knows, I did not harm any snakes that I have encountered.

Also, a snake does not have to be venomous for it to kill. If it gets close enough to me, I could have a heart attack!! ohmy.gif

Hello Terry B biggrin.gif
We're fans of fresh air and don't use fly screens until the -x get too excited at pre dusk, and it was earlier than that :-o And I'd only just been outside myself... maybe I disturbed him from a pile of garden stuff???

What sort? I'm only love certain snakes... there are some that scare me! My best buddy's mother was staying with her years ago... she went to pick up a 'rubber snake' that she assumed was a toy... It was a death adder... luckily, my friend saw her mum and cried out "Noooooooo!" They closed their doors for a long while after that!! unsure.gif biggrin.gif

Well, I can't be sure what kind. I didn't ask! tongue.gif Probably black snakes. I really don't care. I don't want ANY of them in my house!!!!! Ish!!

Crapola! I am NOT a snake lover! I've had a couple in my house (not that big), one on my screened in porch, and one climbing up the side of my house near my bedroom window.

I screamed at that one to get off of my house and he fell off! laugh.gif

UGH! This reminds me that I need to get somebody over here to get rid of all the ivy and grape vine growing on my house. Good place for snakes to live . . .
