Our Windsongs Flute Circle here in northern Maryland had a really great night at our April meeting. We all pitched in and made PVC flutes to send along with a young man in our circle who will be traveling to Uganda on a mission trip.

While there, he will be working with and trying to assist recovering former child soldiers who have escaped and are trying to reconcile themselves with the horrors they have seen and been forced to inflict upon others.

This young man had expressed an interest in taking along some PVC flutes as the NAF is really known as a healing instrument, one that heals the spirit from within.

So, with help from Bob Willasch of the Maryland Flute Circle who brought his traveling shop equipment and from the members of the circle, we all pitched in and managed to make 30 or so PVC flutes to send along with him.

It occurs to me that this activity could be used for a number of applications: helping with a school class, sending flutes to soldiers in the hazard areas, making flutes to gift to people who are curious about the NAF, things like that.

Plus is raises the appreciation for all the flute players to understand what goes into making even a plastic flute.

What a wonderful thing to do, I'm sure the flutes will be well appreciated. You should post a tutorial on making the PVC flutes so that the joy can be spread even further!

Great Idea, I applaud you for you thoughtfullness and kindness. I'm going to bring up doing something for charity at my flute circle.

Well, it wasn't all my idea. I believe in giving credit where credit is due, and much credit goes the members of the circle. I was just one of many who worked on it.

Roger,

What an amazing thing to do for the children. The courting flute is an amazing, healing instrument and I know those childrens lives will be forever changed because of the kindness and selflessness of your flute circle.

My hats off to you friend.

Roger, thanks for sharing, and . . . Kudos to all of the Windsongs Flute Circle folks! wink.gif
Do you have any photos of the PVC party? biggrin.gif
I think that was a grand idea, and it's something that I would like to do, but I would have to rally some help on that task for sure! Any helpful hints that you could pass along would be greatly appreciated.
