While there, he will be working with and trying to assist recovering former child soldiers who have escaped and are trying to reconcile themselves with the horrors they have seen and been forced to inflict upon others.
This young man had expressed an interest in taking along some PVC flutes as the NAF is really known as a healing instrument, one that heals the spirit from within.
So, with help from Bob Willasch of the Maryland Flute Circle who brought his traveling shop equipment and from the members of the circle, we all pitched in and managed to make 30 or so PVC flutes to send along with him.
It occurs to me that this activity could be used for a number of applications: helping with a school class, sending flutes to soldiers in the hazard areas, making flutes to gift to people who are curious about the NAF, things like that.
Plus is raises the appreciation for all the flute players to understand what goes into making even a plastic flute.
