Hey Hugo,
Get a hold of medit8 (sorry if I got the name spelled wrong!)...he had a Bryan Akipa F# for sale here in our classifieds not long ago. I believe that he may have it for sale on Ebay now. Good luck...
Peace...
Tom

Looked at them, at Red Earth, but they simply didn't appear to be a good value, as opposed to other makers. I did purchase his most recent CD, which I am enjoying very much.

Brian Akipa makes flutes in the "old style," that is with bird heads, wraps etc. reminiscent of the nineteenth century. Such Native American performers as Vince Redhouse prefer his flutes for playing in the traditional style. They are primarily made to order, relatively hard to find, and top quality for their type. There is an Akipa on ebay now with the price reduced, and though they can be expensive this flute would have been snatched up quickly before the "recession," although it is one of the least fully decorated of his flutes.

He had more simply decorated ones at Red Earth. Nothing like what you see him with in photos.

Hey Hugo
The fluteplayer from 1996 is played in the traditional way. His newer work is more contemporary.
If you like the old style playing you should also check out Kevin Locke cd Keepers of the dream or the first flute.
http://www.kevinlocke.com/He is also an amazing hoop danser.

Rick, when you say not a good value do you mean too expensive or quality not up to your standards? I wonder what you thought of how they played regardless of price.

For a Bryan Akipa CD, you can choose from several nice ones, but his earliest ones on SOAR, were not as good, as his more recent ones. His recent release Song of the Aspen, is a great choice. Also, Songs of the Black Hills, and Eagle Dreams. He seems to have gone to his own label, now, and left Makoche.
Paul, both.....the styling of the flutes was not up to the price. They played fine, but not special. I felt I could buy flutes that played as well, for less, and the art I was looking for, wasn't on the for sale flutes, at Red Earth. I suspect those would be very expensive, and he has had little success in selling them, so he didn't have any like that, at that event.

Completely missed this thread. Several of Brian Akipa's cd's can be found on amazon.com. I'm not sure who else carries them. The amazon mp3's are your best bet because they are significantly cheaper. Most of the cd's that amazon lists are no longer made so the prices have gone up via the independent sellers.
