Just want to say hello to the forum. I just started playing the flute but I also have the addiction. I have 6 flutes already and stink at playing them all, but would rather stink at playing them than not play them at all. I know that I'm getting better everyday. I really love the soothing meditative sound of the flutes. I came here looking for help in getting better at playing and it looks like I came to the right spot. I have been learning to play on youtube but would really like to find someone to give me some lessons in the Albany to Kingston area. Thanks for letting me hang my hat here.

Welcome to flute central, Brian, where there's a post to hang a hat of every size and style. Where else would others understand that any day stinking at flute playing is better than not playing at all? Play every day, and you can't help but get better. Before you know it, you'll be relaxing and having visions instead of thinking about notes and where your fingers go.

Hi Brian, welcome to the NAF. I've been making and playing NAF for about eight years (strictly for my own enjoyment) and I live in Albany, New York. This area is not a hot-bed of NAF activity. PM me and I could give you a call to offer any help I can.

Welcome to the forum Brian. I understand the addiction fully.

Between you and Barry, looks like the beginnings of a flute circle..................

Thanks Ed! I can't believe how fast somebody from my area chimed in on this site. I should have posted sooner. I've been watching this site for a month or so. I think I may have a new favorite site. I am looking for a site with some positive energy and this may be just what the Dr. ordered.

Checked out your website and your work looks awesome!

Brian,

As the most recently "introduced" member via this forum area, I welcome you to the community. It's such a great, diverse, and supportive gathering of people.

One of the things I've really enjoyed about the NAF is that despite my limitations in talent, the beautiful tones and the inherently soothing scale of the instrument allow a wonderful outlet for improvisation and expession that has never been so accessible to me before.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has been swept away by the NAF in such rapid fashion. Behold the power of the NAF!

I think there is hope for Upstate New York!

Welcome!

Brian,
Welcome! I'm originally from Binghamton NY! But I didn't find out about NAF's until I moved to Florida. Looks like they're just catching on up there... cool!!! I lived near some awesome hills. I'm betting you play from the top of one and it'll carry for miles!!!!

Welcome to flute heaven, Brian!

This is a great place to hang your hat! (Watch out for Just Jim, though. He has a thing about hats so yours might go missing! tongue.gif )

I've been playing for almost two years now and I still stink at playing, but I love it! I need to practice more!!

Glad you've joined us! smile.gif

Oh yeah, I need a new hat!!!
You'll get a laugh outta this...
When I got back from Rhythms I uploaded that finale video, the one with me in it, and I e-mailed the link to a couple friends.
The next morning i get an e-mail saying I need to lose the hat...fast!

Turns out there's some perv around town flashing kids at a school not too far from here. Discription all weekend on the news while I was at Rhythms was skinny guy, T-shirt, bluejeans...
and a camo floppy hunting hat!!!

I'm thinking oh great... I'm scared to wear it now for fear some cop is gonna think it's me...lol!!!

Brian,I also wanted to say... I like the name of your town! I wonder were it came from?
horatio1226
It is a Native American name. As far as I know it has to do with geese. We are located on the shore of the Hudson River and we have thousands of geese pass us in their migration south. In fact, we have some stragglers still going by. The Native Americans use to come from all over the northeast to gather flint from our local flint mines. It is beautiful place. I can see the Catskill mountains from my front deck and the Adirondacks are about an hour north. I love living here.

I am so glad to hear that! Until now, I've always only known it as the name given to the virus that causes Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease.

Your Coxsackie is so much more beautiful! Thanks for enriching my world!

Very interesting Brian! Thanks for the explanation of the name. We have a lot of Native American names around here too like Watchung,Secaucus,Ho-ho-kus Pequannock etc.....But of course not many Native people themselves. Oh well,I am trying to learn more about the Lenape people who were here and how they lived. Cheers...............Ed

A belated but hearty welcome, Brian! You're in the best of the best company here, though I must warn you: if you're concerned about spending too much money on new flute acquisitions as a result of the influences of this forum, you'd better quit... NOW! wink.gif Look forward to hearing more from you.
