Full Version: "go To" Clicky

For a while, the subject titles had a "Go to unread post" clicky that fast-forwarded you to the most recent post after your last sign-in. But its gone!

A huge time saver. Whoever took it, you have 'til tomorrow to return it or we'll just have to take measures! angry.gif laugh.gif

BTW, thanks for the great service you've provided here, Jeff & Geoffrey. Awesome job!

Oh dear. I'm embarassed to admit that I've never notice the clicky you describe, so I don't know what could have happened to it blink.gif I'll poke around a bit, but if you can provide any more details about what it is and where it was...

Thanks!
Harter
Well, unless I was hallucinating....

A few of the sites I frequent have these, but there wasn't any on NAFP... and then there was! And then there wasn't again. sad.gif

Whenever I log in, I usually click the "View New Posts" sort button and then look through the list of new business. And, like the little paperclip link on each of the threads that contain an attachment, this one appeared on the thread subject line, although I don't remember just where or what it looked like .blink.gif

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

And thanks for looking into it!

Harold

clicking on "last post by" will get you right where you want to go.

Thanks Jim.

But, well, not really. The "last post by" clicky gets you to the very last post. The clicky I'm referring to gets you to (what would be for you) the last unread post. There might be 50 posts in a thread, stretched over several pages. And if you've read 20 of them and log back on, you'd like to skip to number 21, which might be on the third or fourth page. That's what my clicky does. wink.gif

You're not the one that stole it, are you? laugh.gif

I don't know what you're talking about. I've always clicked on "View New Posts" and then scrolled down to the newer ones.

That paper clip thingy isn't on all the posts so I'm not sure what it is for.

Are you sure you aren't hallucinating, Harold? Been out in the hot sun too long? tongue.gif
pvanheuklom
Tootie, that's what I do too. The "paper clip thingy" just means that thread contains attachments (flute photos, etc.).
Geoffrey
Hmmmmm. Well, without a description of what the clicky-thing actually looks like....

As I say, I've never noticed it before. I have not made any alterations to the formatting of the forum, so how it would be there one day and gone the next is a mystery.

However, this software is fairly sophisticated and on the Admin control site there are LOTS of buttons and knobs, so to speak, and I can go tinkering to see if anything looks like the "clicky thing" button.

In the meantime, put out an APB on the clicky thing, question any witnesses, etc..

Is stealing the "Clicky Thingy" a Federal Offense? huh.gif Maybe we might have to call in the FBI I think they might have one of those "Clicky Thingy Sniffin' Dogs" we could use to Trail it!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Many Blessings...Robert

If it's clicking, don't we need the bomb squad, too?!

No, wait, that's ticking ... laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

ANYWAY ... if I knew what it looked like, I could help search for it. unsure.gif

If so, its working! Haven't seen one for days...

Oh, wait... there it is!

No, not the elephant. The clicky! Call off the dogs; rescind the missing clicky notice; pull in the search teams!

Its a phantom clicky! It appears on some of the threads, sometimes. For example, on the page in "Make a Suggestion / Report a Bug" that I just opened, this thread doesn't have it, but all the other threads do. Sometimes its just a blank space between the little colored envelope thingy and the name of the thread, and sometimes it shows up as a dotted-line rectangular box, and inside the box is "Go to first unread" and one of those smaller box-with-red-X thingies that appear where a photo has failed to appear. when its just a blank space, putting the cursor over it lights up the "Go to first unread".

O.K., fess-up... you guys knew that all along didn't you. It's not nice to play tricks on the borderline senile, you know. laugh.gif

COOL!!! Harter, you're a genius!! I didn't even know that thingy was there!!!

There IS one for this thread, too!

If you click on 'View new posts" you'll get a list of posts with replies you haven't read yet. To the left of each title, there is an arrow pointing to the title. If you put your cursor on it, it says go to first unread post!

Harter, you deserve an award for finding it! biggrin.gif
tootieflutie58
Hey Harter,

I just discovered something else. The arrow isn't there if you don't have any new posts to read! That's why you don't always see it!

Mystery solved! biggrin.gif

Man, oh man. You've just saved me so much time!!! smile.gif

It's like discovering a new river right in the midst of civilization! Henceforth the clicky thing shall be known as the Harter-Tootie icon. laugh.gif

I am so honored and humbled. tongue.gif

What about you, Harter? We have an icon named after us! biggrin.gif And all because you wouldn't give up your quest for the clicky thingy - uh, I mean the Harter-Tootie icon!

Uhhhh, (blush) thankyou, thankyou, thankyou very much... I couldn't be more honored, being named in such illustrious company as the famed Tootie. (First time I ever was rewarded for losing something... and it happens all the time!) laugh.gif

Actually though -- Tootie has an arrow, and I still don't. I'd forgotten what the thingy looked like, but when it was on my screen, it was that pesky little arrow. Now, (as I mentioned above) I either get a broad blank space or the little box-with-red-X that denotes the arrow is not downloading.

Oh well... as long as I know its there somewhere and I have Tootie to remind me were I put it last, I'm in great shape. blink.gif

Thank you all for aiding in the search for little-icon-lost.

Now, I gotta get packing for my trip to Zion!

Too bad there isn't a little "Go to Zion" Clicky Button. We'd all be joining you there.

Have a great time.
