I am considering purchasing a drum, around an 18" or so. I know I have seen a thread before on good drum makers but I can't find it. If someone on on the Fluteportal forum makes them, speak now. Any advice on what to look for etc. would be greatly appreciated. I will be traveling with this drum as well.

Thanks,
dd

David, depending on where you want to travel all, and in which places you would like to play your drum, you may want to look into getting two types. Besides a hide drum, you might also want to consider a Buffalo drum from REMO (synthetic "head" but with a nice sound). They can handle humidity and are great to play at the ocean or other wet/damp places.

We have a local festival every year, the Chasco Fiesta (or Chasco Fiasco...lol).
Last year there was a gentleman that had a few different animal hides for sale, but I didn't buy one.
This year, if i can swing it, I think I'm going to look into one to try and make my own drum.

maybe you could make one for yourself instead of purchasing one???

Shelly Stenzel - FeatherRidge Flutes

Shelly makes (well I hate to use the word because it gets used wayyyyy to much) Awesome drums. Her drums, most importantly, sound outstanding and they are a joy to look at and very well made. Besides that she a really caring decent person and it shows in her drums.

That Randy guy she married is a really decent flutemake also in case someone wanted to buy a package. I have 3 of Randy's flutes and they are very well tuned, very responsive with a really nice finish. Coupe more are on my list in the future. Oh yeah - he's a purty good guy himself! wink.gif
