I thought I might make a suggestion here for personal journals.
I was a head board moderator for LongLocks hairsticks and one of the sections on the forum was personal journals. It was a section on the forum for members to talk about things going on with them, personal hair journeys, etc. It was a spot for them to keep track of their personal journeys.
If space permits here, maybe that option could be made to members if they wanted to have a journal.
Just thought I'd throw that out there!!!

But what about those of us that don't have much hair left?

To tell you the truth, we had every type of person with hair or no hair. It was a place to ask questions, offer advice, take advice, alot of the same ideas that are here. There were people with hair down to their knees or longer and then there were people recovering from illnesses who lost all their hair, people who had no hair by choice, the list goes on.
Hey, I'm just a newbie here and pretty much just learning to play the NAF,but have musical experience since I was 5. I feel no intimidation here and feel like I can learn alot from the folks here. So if you have barely any hair or no hair, that's ok by me! If I can learn from you and other folks here, that's cool.
The personal journal thing is just to reflect on...................................

I think that's really what the Flute Portal Cafe is for - there are different sections you can post in. I'd guess a journal type thingy would fit in the Introduce Yourself section of the cafe. That's not the regular intro space but a place for you to tell us more about yourself and your interests. smile.gif

Jared and I have been discussing some further "social networking" features for this site, including (potentially) user blogs. Right now we have special educational blogs that are headed up by well-known teachers and artists, but another section where there are individual user blogs might be on the horizon in 2011.

The Flute Portal is designed to be a growing organism, and in Jared (the webmaster) I've found someone whose interests really take them to the cutting edge of web development. The internet is always evolving as a resource, and the expectations of the users is always growing and changing. We want this site to keep pace, offering the features that will make it as useful as possible to the members and visitors.

Now...whether user blogs or journals are ultimately something that the users want...I'm not certain. I thought that the video chat rooms would be a very popular item, but they are only very slowly being explored and might ultimately be a very expensive experiment (though as our roster of teachers grows, it might prove very useful to folks who want online lessons, which was the primary reason for implementing them).

The next phase of development will involve restoring the Flute Circle pages among other things.
