Full Version: Short Cookies?
The Flute Portal Forums > ADMIN Announcements > Make A Suggestion/Report A Bug

Not sure what the deal is, but my login here doesn't last very long.

I'm a member on several forums (at least 8-10). On all of them when I log in (and check the "Keep my logged in" box), I stay logged in literally for weeks, even months. Every time I go to the forum, I'm already logged in. I purposely don't clear my cookies for these forums, and I just stay logged in.

However here, I have to log in every day, sometimes twice a day. Are the cookies just set for a short period of time here?

I've been very active on forums for several years, so I'm fairly forum-savvy. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong.

Thanks,
Jason

Does your computer automatically scan for stuff? Might be deleting cookies.

I used to have to log in once in a while. Now I never have to log in.

Of course, as much as I talk, my computer might be on automatic pilot for the forum now! tongue.gif

I don't think the issue is on my end. As I mentioned, I'm active on 8-10 forums on two computers (home and work), and visit just about all of them daily and this is the only one I have to log into every day. And this happens with both my home and office computer.

Thanks,
Jason

Something happened there. From the start I was logged in automatically, now when I go to the portal I am logged in there but when I go to the forum I have to log in every time. This changed only during the summer. I can't understand what happened.

I stay logged in on the portal, and as long as I don't change computers (office and home I seem to stay logged in on the forum. If I'm on a different computer than last time the forum wants a new log in.

I've had the same annoying problem all along, sometimes requiring me to log in six or seven times per day.

However, I just went into the bowels of the Admin controls and after rummaging around I found a default setting that I didn't know existed (there have been a lot of those). I turned it off.

I can't say for sure what will happen, but let's see if there is a difference with our log ins. Worth a try.

Thanks for taking the trip into the bowels, and glad you made it out. smile.gif

We'll see what happens.

I stay logged in except when I shut down, or change computers.

i've had the same problem, even having to re-log in while logged, just to view a posted pic. i guess we'll see if your fix remedied the situation. smile.gif

Yes, one of the more irritating manifestations of this problem is when I'd get logged out while in middle of making a post! Thankfully there is a feature that prevents you from loosing your text, but it was frustrating. I actually thought (prior to my trip into the bowels) that it was a bug in the forum software. It may still be that, but I'm hoping it is correctable. Time will tell.

Thanks for taking the trouble, Geoffrey - this seems to have fixed the problem at least for me!
Geoffrey
Yes, I think that did the trick--I haven't had to log back in since I made the switch. Oh Joy!!

I'm staying logged in too.

Thanks!

After a 5 day absence I am still logged in.

Well I don't know what has changed, but for the past few days I've had to log in every day again. Not sure if it was the site upgrade, but I thought that was just for the main site, not the forum.

Was there a change?

Thanks,
Jason
