Full Version: Exo Flipple Design

I think this is the right place to put this. I ran into a pvc pennywhistle design that called for an exo flipple. In essence, the windway is on top of the body and air hits the tsh. In this one it is round. The bevel is below like tsh in naf. I think you could do this with a say 10-12/32 by 7/32 rectangle tsh. Also, you could do in wood.

So, I wonder if anyone has opinions on the exo fipple. I think the fugari (not sure correct spelling sorry) that is on flutopedia is an exo flipple.

Your opinions and experiences are appreciated.

Be well.

Sounds like you're descibing a NASF sound system without the SAC.
Lots of makers have done this. The downside for a penny whistle or most flutes made with this "exo" ducting by most makers is the limited 2nd octave range.

good point. I did make an easy reach pvc like deruby's anasazi. It has traditional windway like you see in whistles. It gets a good 1 and 1/2 due to my skills.

so, I think that your point is well taken. It would indeed defeat the purpose if trouble in the 2nd octave.

My shak style is getting 2 octaves.

Guess it may depend on what you're looking for from a flute...
