Ok I give up. What is a SOTW flute? blink.gif
Hawk
SOTW= Spirit of the Woods

These are flutes made by Ed Hrebec (sp?)

You can find him on the web.

Here's the link to his website, if you're interested:

Never tried one of his flutes before (too pricey for me) but have heard many good things about his instruments wink.gif

Ed Hrebec's flutes are fantastic. He is the best maker of the
plains style NAF. If you already have flutes by Colyn and/or Geoffrey,
I really recommend you go for a SOTW flute - they really have
a different character. Their voice is less "round", but
focused, very sweet and also perfectly in tune.
Ed has a very, very, very long waiting list though....
It's probably the better strategy to wait for the next
update of "in stock flutes"....

Ed makes some very nice flutes. If you are like me, though, you won't see a whole lot of them in your area, because they aren't so easy to come by, and Ed is located a long way from you. sad.gif

I got to try one that just arrived at one of my circle member's homes, this week, in low G, and it was a sweet flute, although softer voiced than I usually like for myself, at last night's circle. Ed is the only flue in block maker, I know of, that makes low flutes.

Still have never been able to get a flute from him, but perhaps one day.

I have three of Ed's flutes with three more coming soon.Ed's flutes are fantastic work's of art and sound fantastic as well.Robin is right,it would be better to get one from his in-stock,rather than a custom order, because of the wait.good luck.
Rick McDaniel
Just as much wait for an in-stock listing? Never had any success with that either, myself.

Ed offers in-stock flutes quite frequently.
I'll write a post next time I see it.

But you're right. Ed's sub bass flutes have the typical SOTWF-sweet voice,
but are much softer voiced than for example Geoffrey's, Colyn's or Russ Venable's.

In the mid-range though (from mid/low C up), Ed's flutes have great volume too.

While I've been waiting for a custom mid A from Ed since January, I've managed to get four flutes from his in-stock page. They really do have a sweet, unique voice all their own. Listening to Kenneth Hooper on the Elysium Calling CDs ought to convince anyone Ed makes a great flute.

I agree with Paul.Elysium Calling's cd are two of my favorites. You will wait if you order a custom flute from Ed,but I believe it's well worth the long wait.

Folks

Much of the work Mark Holland has done on his last several CDS have been on SOTW flutes. He has been building Mark's signature flutes for 4 or 5 years now. Of course a number of artists have used his flutes over the last few years. Ed also makes really nice drones.
