From Scott:
Lone Crow Song, A New Song for Native American style flute
Back in the summer of 2005 I had a chance to perform at an event in the Phoenix area that attracted people from all over the country. One of those attending was a flute maker named Leonard McGann of Lone Crow Flutes. Leonard had traveled all the way from his home in rural Virginia to be at this event and I found him to be a very warm, likable person, with a soft, gentle wit, as well as a very good flute maker. I decided to purchase a flute from him at that event and have enjoyed it ever since.
Many times since then, I have had the pleasure of running into Leonard, mostly at my east coast appearances, and always enjoy his down-to-earth company and humor. The 2011 Musical Echoes festival was the last event I attended where I got to spend some time with him. We hung out, talked about flutes and cracked jokes, mostly bad ones. You know, the ones that make you groan...
Several weeks ago I learned that Leonard is suffering from late stage cancer. As is his way, he his dealing with this with an open heart and a touch of humor. Leonard is a much loved figure in the Native Flute community and to help him out with his finances due to his illness, Randy and Shelly Stenzal of Feather Ridge flutes are coordinating a flute auction featuring instruments from many different flute makers.
I wanted to contribute somehow, but not being a maker, I figured that the best way I could help out was to record a song on one of Leonard's flutes, put it up for sale on my website, and then donate the proceeds to Leonard.
The resulting recording is Lone Crow Song. This song is now available for purchase as an MP3 digital download on the Cedar Mesa Music website. All proceeds will be donated directly to Leonard McGann by Cedar Mesa Music.

http://www.cedarmesa.com/lonecrowsong/The flute used to record Lone Crow Song, is in an alternate tuning compared to most standard Native American style flutes. This flute, while using the same scale as a contemporary Native American style flutes, starts on a note a whole step lower than most NAFs, giving the flute a slightly different flavor.
Please consider purchasing a copy of Lone Crow Song. You get a new song by me and, more important, help Leonard McGann gets some financial assistance.
