Geoffrey,

It looks like the repair job wiped out all of the posts done yesterday! Could they be stored somewhere or are they gone forever?! blink.gif

Also wiped out the Personal Messages. I had notice of one, that is not there.

Hi, Webmaster Jared here. Unfortunately there was a rather catastrophic failure on the database server which resulted in an entirely new RAID array needing to be installed. The latest backup available for restoration was from very early in the morning on the 21st, so basically there is a day's worth of posts missing. I am assured by the server admins that they've taken steps to avoid this type of failure in the future, but in the meantime, we have to make due with what we've got.

My apologies for the loss of data, and again I'm trusting we won't see a repeat of this any time soon.

Jared

Thanks for the update Jared.

This is always a risk for an online forum that stores posts, messages, etc.. I'm inclined to think we got off pretty easy by only loosing a days worth of posts.

However, I hope nothing to critical was lost and that any questions that were posted (and their answers) might be restored by the members themselves if they can remember what they wrote.

Sorry folks sad.gif

What a shame. I posted the answer to the meaning of life (no, not 42), and it's apparently lost forever.

Oh well, I'm not typing all that again.

Gee, I remember posting the meaning of the universe, but again, that was soooooo long, I probably won't try to do it again.

Does make you wonder about the desirability of using on-line storage for your personal stuff, though, now doesn't it??? sad.gif

Hugo......your last message to me was lost......so if you want to, send it again.

The answer to the meaning of life is Yes--but even this description is about one word too long. Let the server suck that back into the void! unsure.gif

Thanks, Jared. I guess we got off lucky! unsure.gif At least it didn't steal the posts counter. I am still the post queen! laugh.gif (Well, in my own little world!)

And Jason, if Paul is correct and the answer to life is 'yes', why did you need to type a long post for that?! Somehow, I think Paul is bluffing and doesn't really know the answer.

If the post is too long to retype, could you at least drop a few hints? I've been working on that question for a while now. blink.gif laugh.gif wink.gif (Are you sure it isn't 42?)

So then ... the truth is Hugo knows the meaning of the universe and you are trying to get it back so you can take credit?! Really, Rick! I wouldn't have expected that from you! tongue.gif

Yes, no to yes. Kind of sounds like you've been sniffing the Expresso markers a little too much there, Professor. Go outside and get some fresh air.

Of course, if you, like many students, just guessed at the answer and accidently got it right ..... Hmmmm.........

No. It's yes to no to yes. I'm sure of it.

Lend me Your Ear Grasshopper and I will tell you the "Meaning of Life" This is it... Life means you Still have Time to get More Flutes and Still have the Breath to Play them!"...So in the other Cup the "Meaning of Death" is "No Flutes, No Breath, No Songs, No Kidding!" Now Grab the Pebble from My Hand! biggrin.gif
