Full Version: Flute Scam

FYI: A guy who gave the name Jay Powell (but also uses aliases) called me on the phone earlier this month and wanted to trade a bow for a flute. He introduced himself and told me he had been referred by a member of the Flute Portal. We had a lengthy, pleasant conversation and I even sent pictures and allowed him to pick out the flute he preferred. Anyway, just before I dropped the flute in the mail I began to think that maybe I should check him out. Sure enough, he has a reputation as a scammer (several people had some very harsh things to say about him). I decided to wait and see if his end of the trade showed up. It didn't. He did call me, I suppose because no flute showed up on his end, so I confronted him about what I had read. He assured me that those problems were all in the past. After the call he sent me a blurry picture of part of a bow and stated that said bow was in the mail. I'm still waiting. If a (decent) bow ever arrives I'll update this thread but in the mean time he is probably a person you should be extremely careful about.

Spam-man, con-man, . . . or what my grandpa simply called a shyster.

Thanks Russ! It was very nice of you to give flute folks a heads up on this matter.

Makers beware.

These kinds of scams are usually aimed at you guys.

There's no way, as a player, we would even consider trading one of our treasured flutes for a bow. laugh.gif

I'm glad to hear you didn't get "taken" - it's a shame we can't always trust others and need to keep our shields up.
I guess not all flooters are warm and fuzzy types.

Hmmm ... do you need a bow? I have an older recurve that I no longer use that I'll trade for a flute of yours!
It's an older Damon Howatt Super Diablo, 45# ... but, it's a LEFTY (I'm a righty, but I shoot a bow lefty - like Fred Bear). Lemme' know if you're interested.

Roger that ... forgot about the PM option - sorry! I wasn't actually looking to trade, but it was a gut response to his post, trying to help out. I'll be more concious in the future.
